Description

Coronal section through the occipital lobe of one of the cerebral hemispheres, stained with Cresyl Violet. Examination with a hand-lens will show the stratification of the cells in the cortex, and differences in the stratification will be noted in different areas of the cortex. On the medial aspect of the occipital lobe is seen the deep calcarine sulcus (S.C.), in the walls of which is the visual cortex. In the middle of the white matter is the posterior tip of the posterior horn of the lateral ventricle.
