Number of Sections: 1
Part of Body: descending horn of the lateral ventricle
Description

Section through the descending horn of the lateral ventricle. The lateral and medial aspects of the section are indicated. Into the medial aspect of the descending horn the cerebral cortex is inrolled to form a conspicuous eminence, the hippocampus. Covering the ventricular surface of the latter is a thin layer of white matter, the alveus, whose fibres run medially into the fimbria (here cut transversely). Notice the deep collateral fissure which extends out to the floor of the posterior part of the descending horn to raise up a slight eminence, the collateral eminence.
