Orientation of Section: transverse
Number of Sections: 1
Part of Body: frontal region of the brain
Description

Transverse section through the frontal region of the brain. The anterior horns of the lateral ventricle are seen (Vent), separated by a thin septum lucidum (S1). The ventricles are roofed over by the corpus callosum (CC), and in the floor and lateral wall is the head of the caudate nucleus (Cd). The section also cuts through the front part of the lentiform nucleus, and its two elements are plainly recognizable, the putamen (P) and the globus pallidus (G). Lateral to the putamen is the claustrum (C). Between the lentiform and caudate nuclei is the anterior limb of the internal capsule. The anterior commissure (AC) is sectioned through a considerable part of its length. The anterior commissure links together on the two sides part of the cortex of the temporal lobe, and also parts of the basal ganglia.
