Number of Sections: 1
Orientation of Section: coronal
Part of Body: anterior horn of the lateral ventricle
Description

Coronal section through the anterior horn of the lateral ventricle (LV) and adjacent structures. The anterior horns are separated in the mid-line by the septum lucidum (S). Notice the bilaminar structure of the septum, and its median slit-like cavity (the cavum septi lucidi). The roof of the ventricle is formed by the corpus callosum (CC), and the floor by the head of the caudate nucleus (Cd). The caudate nucleus at this level is directly connected across the internal capsule (I.C.) with the putamen of the lentiform nucleus (Lent) by bridges of grey matter. Below, on either side of the longitudinal fissure between the cerebral hemispheres, is seen the subcallosal gyrus (SbG). This area of cortex receives the medial root of the olfactory tract.
