Description

Section through the medulla of a monkey, stained with iron haemotoxylin and neutral red, showing a portion of the olivary nucleus. It is seen to contain fairly large nerve cells. These cells all undergo atrophy when the opposite half of the cerebellum is destroyed, and their axons form the olivo-cerebellar fibres which reach the opposite cerebellar hemisphere by way of the inferior cerebellar peduncle. The photograph is at a magnification of X 390.
