Description

Section of a human pineal gland seen under low power. The apex of the gland is to the right, and to the left can be seen a part of the pineal recess − an extension of the cavity of the third ventricle into the pineal stalk. Above the gland is the suprapineal recess in the tela choroidea of the third ventricle. The section shows many of the degenerative changes which are quite commonly seen in the human pineal gland. These degenerative changes are manifested in the formation of cysts and of calcareous nodules. The photograph is at a magnification of X 14.
