Part of Body: spinal cord, th10
Orientation of Section: transverse
Number of Sections: 1
Pathology: pachymeningitis
Description

Section of the spinal cord (at the level Th.10) from a case of Pachymeningitis, showing degeneration of crossed and direct pyramidal tracts. The case is perhaps due to a chronic (? tuberculous) disease of the vertebral column, leading to a local compression of the spinal cord and thus to a gradually increasing spastic paralysis and loss of all forms of sensation below the level of the lesion. Notice that the dura mater is much thickened, and is partly adherent to the cord.
